Bukola Saraki, President of Nigeria's Senate

The Nigerian Senate have filed a case at the Supreme Court to seek clarification on the suspension of the Chief Justice of Nigeria, Walter Onnoghen.

The Senate however suspended their plan to reconvene on Tuesday as they cited their standing rule which stopped the Senate to debate any case that is already in court.

The Senate decided to approach the apex court to seek interpretation on whether President Buhari acted within the provision of the constitution in his suspension of Mr Onnoghen.

The Senate also asked the court to determine whether the action of the president amounts to usurpation of the powers of the Senate as stated in Section 292 of the constitution.
