A Primary School pupil of Great Star Nursery and Primary School, named Christian, has drowned in the swampy River, near the Ibesikpo Street, in Calabar South local government area of Cross River.

The incident occurred when the victim was allegedly sent to go and fetch water from the river, along with a few others.

An eyewitness, who pleaded that his name should not be in print, said that after the boys had plunged into the water to bath, but Christian was unlucky as he got drowned.

They said the water only returned the body later in the evening.

A neighbour, Ibanga Peter explained “It was when the water brought back the body that the search party and divers were able to bring his body home.’

 

Peter also disclosed that the parents of the dead boy were not living together, adding that the father had travelled to Benin.

He disclosed that when the father was informed about the incident on phone, he was mad with anger.

“The father of the victim warned that his son must not be buried until he arrived,” Peter said.

When contacted the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Irene Igbo said they did not have information about the incident.
