Buhari on Sunday, March 29th, declared a 14-day lockdown in Abuja, Lagos and Ogun states as part of measures to help curb the spread of the Coronavirus.
All residents, except those who provide essential services to the public and those in the medical line, were expected to stay at home
However, Jumia Packaging Studio and the Supreme Hotel in the Agege area of Lagos were caught disobeying the restriction order.
The Director-General, Lagos State Safety Commission, Mr. Lanre Mojola in a statement said the exercise was carried out following a tip-off received from some individuals.
He described the non-compliance of some organizations as unpatriotic stressing that the government was making efforts to curb the spread of the COVID-19 pandemic in Lagos.
Mojola also revealed that a group of over 50 commercial sex workers at Supreme Brothel were expelled before sealing off the premises.
The statement read in part: “The Lagos State COVID-19 Taskforce, mandated by the State Government to monitor and enforce compliance with the Statewide restriction order, has sealed SPN Packaging, situated at Plot B, Israel Adebajo Close, Ikeja and Supreme Brothel, at 8, Omitola Panada, Street, Agege, among others, for violating the two-week stay-at-home directive.
“In following one of the tip-offs to the factory of PSN, a Chinese packaging firm, the team discovered that some Chinese nationals and their Nigerian workers were inside the factory while production was ongoing, contrary to an earlier claim that the premises was empty.
“They were immediately directed to stop production before the company was eventually sealed”.
He added that Jumia warehouse which was initially sealed has been reopened after it was established that its activity/line of production is classified as essential goods/suppliers as enshrined in the infectious Disease Regulation signed by Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu on March 27, 2020.
