U.S. Hits New Fatality Record As World Virus Death Toll Surpasses 400,000Medics Taking dead victims of coronavirus for burial in Brazil

The United States logged a new coronavirus record death toll on Saturday as it reached 111,961.

The worst-hit country reached the new level, as global death toll from the coronavirus surpassed 400,000.

Part of the surge came from Latin America, especially Brazil.

According to worldometers.info, one of the data agencies tracking the pandemic, global fatalities reached a new height of 400,862 as at 23:00GMT.

UK logged 40,465 deaths while Brazil recorded 35,443 deaths, to become the second and third with worst fatalities from the virus.

Global caseload for the virus was also creeping near 7 million on Saturday.

Worldometers gave a summary of 6,941,555.

The U.S. recorded 16,493 new infections for the day as at 23:00 GMT. Its national total is also creeping to the 2 million mark. It is now 1,982,201. Two million could be reached in another 24 hour cycle.

Brazil now number two in the world with 658,434 cases, logged 12,428 new ones. World number three Russia with 458,689, reported 8,855 new infections.

India that has become 6th in the world after UK and Spain reported a national record 10,438 daily cases, to have a national total of 246,622 cases.

Brazil is unhappy about its virus status with President Jair Bolsonaro threatening to pull out of the World Health Organization (WHO) over “ideological bias” of the UN agency.

If he carries out his threat, he will be following the example of the United States.

Bolsonaro is among those arguing that the economic damage lockdowns are causing is worse than the virus itself.
