Four kidnap victims, including a professor, have been rescued in a forest between Okigwe and Ideato LGAs of Imo State, after their kidnappers were forced to flee following a fierce gun battle with the Operatives of the Imo State Police Command Special Anti Robbery Squad (SARS) over the weekend.
The raid was carried out under the orders of Imo State Commissioner of Police, Isaac O. Akinmoyede.
The victims identified as Aminu Ibrahim 55; Prof. Ekezie Christopher 72; Friday Udoh 33 and Onyekachi Nwibe were rescued unhurt thanks to a detailed operation by the security forces.
According to the Police spokesman, the hoodlums fled the scene with gunshot injuries but one English made pump action rifle with 27 live cartridges were recovered at the scene of the incident. The police spokesman, SP Orlando Ikeokwu who confirmed the incident, said two vehicles were recovered at the scene which includes Toyota Spider car with Reg no. PHC 407 AG, black in colour and Honda ACCORD with Reg no. LND 262 FM.
He added that the victims had been united with their families while investigation into the incident continues to arrest the fleeing kidnappers.
This is an additional feather to the cap of the Imo state commissioner of police Mr. Akinmoyede.
Although he hasn’t spent more than a hundred days in office after his fresh transfer, Imo state has noticed a better reformed, more thorough police outfit and his exploits which are too numerous to list have preceded
Due to the recent upsurge of crime in the country, it is very necessary that CP Akinmoyede be given a more distinct role at the forefront of security affairs in the country because of his wonderful administrative qualities and his synergy with public agencies and other organisations on solving common security problems.
