Senator Sani Shehu has taken to his verified twitter account to condemn a move by the Islamic Police in Kano State to ban the use of the phrase ‘Black Friday’.
The Lawmaker in reaction to the move said the word does not have anything to do with Muslim day of prayer and Hisbah threat ‘nonsensical’.
Recall that Kano State Hisbah Board had earlier on Friday ordered Cool FM to stop mentioning ‘Black Friday’ on air. The board stated that Friday is a day Muslims consider holy.
The warning letter which was signed by Principal Executive Officer II, Abubakar Ali, on behalf of Hisbah Commander-General was addressed to the General Manager of the media company.

The memo said the Islamic security outfit received complaints regarding Black Friday sales on November 27, 2020.
Cool FM was informed that ‘the majority of the inhabitants of Kano State are Muslims that consider Friday as holy day’. And in reaction, Sani, who represented Kaduna Central Senatorial district in the eight National Assembly, said the name does not in any way affect the Muslim prayer day.
He tweeted, ‘Friday is our sacred day of prayer as Muslims. Whatever colour is added to it doesn’t matter. Hisbah’s threats against the phrase ‘Black Friday’ is nonsensical. ‘They should focus on the killings and kidnappings going on in their domains. Their services are needed on the battlefield.’
