Ahead of the 2023 elections which is expected to happen in exactly 12 months from now, former President of Nigeria, Olusegun Obasanjo has called on the older generation of Nigerians to step down for the younger ones.

Obasanjo asserted that the older generation should support the younger generation who actually posses the needed knowledge and experience to transform Nigeria in line with 21st century standards.

The former President made these assertions when he spoke yesterday at the 2022 annual lecture of the Murtala Muhammed Foundation.

He faulted old politicians still contesting for the Presidency in 2023.

According to Obasanjo: ‘We need to have an intergenerational collaboration. Fayemi said he was in primary school when Murtala and Obasanjo were there.

‘So, if people of the Murtala/Obasanjo era are competing with you as Governor, then, something is wrong.

‘The Murtala/Obasanjo group should be stepping aside.

‘Whatever experience and knowledge we have, we should be able to give it to you and you should be able to give it to those coming after you.’

Meanwhile, in a related development, the National Leader of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu has addressed concerns of a Nigerian youth becoming the next president in 2023, insisting that the time was not yet ripe for a youthful President.

As the 2023 elections draws near, many Nigerian youths have been agitating that old leaders should not be allowed to lead the nation after President Muhammadu Buhari.

According to them, it’s time for a young Nigerian to lead the country.

However, Tinubu, while speaking in a viral video sighted Africa Today News, New York on Sunday, maintained that he wants the youth to be president of Nigeria but that will happen after he’s served as the president.
